DS Studio is proud to announce its participation in the international exhibition held in Venice, centered on the profound themes of “Repair, Regenerate, and Reuse.” At the heart of their contribution is a specialized installation titled “The Garden of Forking Paths,” which explores the metamorphosis of Istanbul’s historic Kadıköy Hasanpaşa Gasworks.

On Installation

The installation traces the decade-long journey of the Hasanpaşa Gasworks in Kadıköy from an industrial history into a vibrant cultural hub. DS Studio approaches this evolution through the philosophical lens of Jorge Luis Borges’ work. The work envisions time not as a straight line, but as a series of branching, parallel realities forking with each other.

Through The Garden of Forking Paths, DS Studio illustrates that the repurposing of the Gasworks is a living example of how a city’s past is never static. Just as every choice in Borges’ story creates a new path, the architectural intervention at the Gasworks represents a “fork” in its history where industrial heritage is reimagined to unlock new vibrant possibilities for the future.

The installation demonstrates that the site is no longer a frozen artifact. On contrary t has become a dynamic, ever-changing space where a rich 19th-century heritage and exciting future predictions merge.
